Having a bad shave, and using the wrong products and tools can invariably produce problems such as redness, a burning sensation, pimples, razor bumps and ingrown hairs.

We recognise that as well as appearing unattractive they can also feel unpleasant and painful.

Get the routine right and the results will speak for themselves.

5 Simple Steps to the Perfect Shave

You will find your beard mostly grows in a downward direction towards your neck, apart from the area around your Adam’s apple where you will find it goes upwards. Whichever way your beard grows the rule is that you always shave in that direction. Make sure your razor is clean and sharp, and have a mirror to hand to check that perfect finish.

Wash

Wash your face with hot water or a facial scrub to cleanse the face, soften the beard and open the pores.

(Using a really hot face cloth softens the beard when left on for a few seconds).

Apply

Leave the shaving cream / gel on for a few minutes before shaving to allow penetration into your beard and raise and expand the hairs.

(Using a shaving brush to apply the lubricant lifts the hair away from the skin making it easier to shave. It also removes dead skin and covers all areas of the face and neck).

Shave

To allow the lubricant to take effect, start shaving from the sides of your ears. Move onto the cheeks and then onto the area between your nose and top lip. The final area should be your chin and neck which will need several strokes in various directions to allow for the area around the Adams apple.

(Keep the skin taught to create a flat surface extending the hairs and regularly rinse the razor to remove hair and foam buildup).

Rinse

With your hands feel your face to check for stray hairs, and rinse off with cold water to close the pores and refresh the face.

(Dry your face by patting it with a clean soft towel to prevent weakening the elasticity of the skin and accelerate the signs of ageing)

Moisturise

Whilst the skin is slightly damp, apply a post shave balm that suits your skin type to maintain a healthy hydrated and supple appearance.

(Remember if you have dry skin, avoid using aftershave on your face and neck, as this will dry out your skin further).
